Dehumidifier Water Capture for Water Feature
Goals of Innovation: To make use of all available resources, even those "waste" products from the homes' systems.
Description: The designers on this project included a water feature to enhance the ambiance of the garden. It gives the homeowner a place to relax in the shade of the grapefruit tree and listen to the sound of the water flowing, as well as create a habitat for birds, butterflies and other passing critters.
But, this is no ordinary water feature. Especially unique is that the pond is designed to use water discharged from the homes' whole house dehumidifier meaning the pond will never need topping off, and a constant flow of water is discharged onto the wetland area where native plants and wildlife can flourish. Additionally, the waterfall is powered by a solar water pump that oxygenates the water keeping it healthy and fresh.
Obstacles: There were no obstables associated with this innovation. Constructing the water feature was straightforward and capturing the excess water from the dehumidifier was a simple task.
Cost Information: The cost of piping was the most substantial for creating this feature at about $20.
