Special information

This home is a worthy example of what can be accomplished in a resource efficient manner with planning and persistence. The design and construction team created a larger space (addition / renovation size: 2500 sq. ft.) while maintaining the existing urban footprint and character of the neighborhood. Materials were salvaged and reused rather than disposed as waste. Even with the limitations of the existing location and orientation, daylighting strategies opened and brightened the home. A unique flat green roof system provided solar gain from the southern exposure while adhering to the community's vision for managing storm water and reducing heat island effects. Energy efficiency was incorporated throughout the construction and product choices. Overall, this home will provide the additional space requirements for an extended family while gaining environmental benefits throughout the lifetime of the home.
